Forensic scientist Dr. Lori Ann Valentin, who attained a B.S. in Biochemistry from SUNY Fredonia in 2009, will return to campus for a two-working day residency, “My Radiant Journey: Company through Science – A Chemist’s Perspective,” on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 7 and 8.

Writers@Perform is an alumni writers-in-home series that includes both well-recognized and emerging writers, editors and publishers in a variety of experienced and resourceful genres who fulfill with students and fascinated community customers. It delivers consideration to the various techniques composing and the humanities make a change in the world.

The residency has been collaboratively organized by Writers@Operate with the departments of Biology, Chemistry and Psychology, the FREDwell Lounge, Honors Application, Intercultural Centre and Keeper of the Dream Scholarship and Leadership Plan.

Dr. Valentín looks ahead to connecting with Fredonia learners in meaningful techniques for the duration of her residency.

“As a minority lady in STEM, I have an understanding of how vital illustration is. I want to provide as a function model and supporter that I experienced often envisioned when I was a student,” Valentín said. “It’s seriously important to me to serve as that consultant design and present pupils with all those sources and instruments that aided me in my journey.

The residency will open up with “Focus on Forensics: Accomplishing the Science & Speaking the Effects via Writing,” on Monday, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., in Science Centre Area 126. When questioned how SUNY Fredonia aided to start off Valentin on her occupation path, she replied, “The planting of the ‘service seed’ started at Fredonia by means of my involvement in the Keeper of the Dream Scholarship and Leadership Software, outreach work via the Chemistry Club, tutoring at the Tutoring Center and working as an ESL tutor in Dunkirk although I was a university student.

“Having people alternatives definitely broadened my standpoint in terms of the scope of the company I gave to my local community,” Valentin stated.

Valentín, who retains a doctoral degree in chemistry from Binghamton University, is a forensic scientist at the New York Condition Law enforcement Forensic Investigation Center in Albany. She started her get the job done in forensics in 2015. Valentin was assigned to the seized medicine segment exactly where she analyzed hundreds of evidentiary goods for the existence of controlled substances in regional, state and federal criminal situations.
